Cortney Smith
– Events Manager
Cortney Smith joined Powered by Professionals in February, 2007 and currently serves as Events Manager. She has overall responsibility of the auctions of all events and is responsible for the planning and executing of events for several clients generating millions of dollars in donations.
Cortney graduated from Iowa State University in 2006 and received a bachelor’s degree in French and International Studies. Her corporate experience is in supply chain and logistics. She has worked in customer service, fleet management, and business development at CRST International in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and in inventory supply management at Cargill in Wayzata, Minnesota.
Cortney’s interest in fundraising truly began while studying abroad in Cannes, France in 2005. She volunteered at the annual American Foundation for AIDS Research event, Cinema Against AIDS, hosted by Sharon Stone. She loved the energy in preparation for the event, and was impressed with the amazing acts of generosity during the event.
Cortney has always been interested in the non-profit sector. She was a Founder of Youth POWER, (Providing Others With Enabling Resources), a Board of youth members who grant money to local non-profit organizations. Some other highlights include participation in the annual Ride Against Abuse benefiting the Hooved Animal Humane Society and the annual Dance Marathon benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network. Other non-profit involvement includes the Humane Society, Meals on Wheels, Miracles in Motion, ACCESS Women’s Shelter and Campfire USA.
Her passions, other than philanthropy, include horseback riding in which she has been nationally competitive, playing the cello, spending time with her amazing family, and traveling as much as possible.
