Volunteer Spotlight: The Shapiro Family
Michael and Jodi Shapiro live in Tarrytown, NY with their two sons, Matthew and Lucas. Just after Matthew turned 2, and their baby, Lucas, hit 5 months, Jodi and Michael were given devastating news – Michael was diagnosed with a GBM. Michael and Jodi turned to Eric Lichtenstein, co-founder of VABC and a family friend and co-worker of Michael’s, for guidance. With the support of his entire family, Michael began a grueling two-month period of chemotherapy and radiation; however, the results were not good. Never giving up hope, Michael continued with various treatments, and after two craniotomies, rehab, and proper medication, Michael received a good MRI!The Shapiro family, along with their parents, brothers and sisters, was honored at VABC’s 6th Annual Sounding Off for a Cure Benefit Concert in June of 2011 with the Vision of Hope Award. In December, at VABC’s Join the Voices! Run/Walk, Team Shapiro had one of the largest teams of 170 members! Click here to read more.
